Dutch Colony is no stranger to many locals, with a total of 5 outlets across Singapore.
The brand first started in PasarBella at Turf Club (now rebranded as The Grandstand), and but has since closed down that branch.
Other existing outlets can be found at Frankel Avenue, UE Square Mall, Fusionopolis One, New Tech Park, and their latest outpost at Our Tampines Hub, on the side nearer to the Tampines Regional Library.
Featuring the same white and sleek interior as the one over at New Tech Park opened in mid-2021, their latest outlet can accommodate a total of 7 tables.
Their menu is similar across all their outlets, with Breakfast ($5 – $19), Entrees ($8 – $11), Salad ($15) and Waffles ($13).
Note that Dutch Colony is partially Muslim-owned and all the ingredients, cakes and pastries are from Halal-certified kitchens and sources.
A good selection of dishes can be found on their Breakfast menu, from Hearty Breakfast Platter ($19) to Truffled Egg Mayo Croissant ($11), Ham & Cheese Croissant ($11), Yogurt Granola Bowl ($10), French Toast ($16), Guac on Toast ($11) and Eggs & Toast ($5).
The Guac on Toast ($11) is served on a slice of sourdough with guacamole, cherry tomatoes, sous vide poached egg, feta cheese and Shiso sprouts.
There is a nice balance of textures between the creamy and velvety smooth guacamole with crispy and crunchy sourdough toast beneath it.
The feta cheese adds a tinge of saltiness that elevates the overall taste with some complexity, yet not too overwhelming.
The French Toast ($16) is another signature item on their menu, with caramelised banana, mixed berries, peaches, espresso butter on top of a brioche toast, sprinkled with pumpkin seeds and pomegranate.
While the brioche was soft and fluffy, I personally preferred a thicker cut with a more chewy texture, which will be a nice contrast to the crunchy pumpkin seeds and pomegranate.
The only dessert on the menu is the Waffle-licious ($13) made from 3 pieces of waffles with seasonal berries, peaches, almond flakes and coffee caramel.
The waffle is decent with a crispy surface and a fluffy texture on the inside.
I appreciated the generous amount of fruits incorporated into each dish, but both the French Toast ($16) and the Waffle-licious ($13) do taste a bit similar with the toppings.
Using a Dutch house blend (50% Brazil, 50% Ethiopia) and a single origin Ethiopia for their espresso-based drinks, the usual selection can be found on the menu: Espresso ($3.50), Long Black ($4.80), White ($5.50) and Mocha ($5.80).
My cup of Flat White ($5.50) is medium bodied and smooth with berries notes and bright notes of apricot.
Alternative non-espresso based drinks are available for the non-coffee drinkers, which include Chocolate ($5.30), Chai Latte ($5.30), Matcha Latte ($6) and Turmeric Oat Latte ($6.30).
More than just the usual tea and coffee, Dutch Colony has introduced several interesting signature drinks on the menu: Easy Tonic ($8), Love & Affection ($8.50), Iced Honey lemon Mint Tea ($7.50), and Iced Citrus Chai Spritzer ($7.50).
The Easy Tonic ($8) comes with espresso with strawberry & yuzu reduction and tonic water was citrusy and refreshing, whereas the Love & Affection ($8.50) with cold brewed coffee & tea with berry reduction has a sweeter profile.
Opened at 8am daily, Dutch Colony will be a good spot for those who need some caffeine in the early mornings.
