Bearded Bella first opened at Tanjong Pagar Craig Road in 2018, offering Melbourne-inspired brunch on their menu.
The outlet has opened with a fanfare as one of the owners, Regina Tay, who had prior F&B experience at Strangers’ Reunion, was the Singapore National Barista Championship Winner in 2016.
The name may sound catchy: union of a Bearded man and a Bella, which represents the fun and quirkiness here.
Here at the Bukit Timah outlet, the characteristics of “Bella” is more prominent with a dusty pink entrance and in the interior.
There is a similarity between the two outlets, both offering a pet-friendly alfresco dining space for paw parents and their furkids to enjoy some quality time over a hearty meal.
This is because one of the co-owners herself own two Chow Chow (one white and one brown) that look like mini lions due to their thick mane, and she enjoyed having her furkids with her while she had her brunch.
Both the menus are the same at their Tanjong Pagar and Bukit Timah outlet, with a recent refresh brunch menu.
Signatures include Green Harissa Duck burger ($26), Crab Croissant ($24), Extraordinary Eggs & Snags ($24), Salmon, Pistachio, Rosti ($22), Corned Beef Maple Toast and Pain Perdu aka Fancy AF French Toast ($20).
The Salmon, Pistachio, Rosti ($22) comes with pistachio crusted Norwegian salmon on top of a think crispy layer of potato rosti, with watercress and rocket salad an a dollop of citrus mint mayo.
Optional add-ons are available, namely Eggs – Sunny/ Poached/ Scrambled ($2), Toast – Sourdough/ Multigrain/ English Muffin ($3), Bacon ($3), Avocado ($3), Feta ($3.50), Haloumi ($3.50) and Mixed Greens ($4).
I enjoyed the scrambled egg add-on the most, silky smooth and creamy whereas the sides of the Norwegian salmon was a bit dry.
Both the pistachio crust and pomegranate seeds did add some crunch to the texture, in addition to the thin crispy layer of rosti beneath.
My favourite was the Pain Perdu aka Fancy AF French Toast ($20) which may seem just like any other brioche toast.
Instead, the brioche was extremely moist, soft and fluffy, soaked in generous amount of milk.
With a layer of pink guava compote sandwiched between the brioche layers, it adds a nice textural contrast to soft and fluffy toast.
There is also a subtle sweetness and citrus touch from the pink guava, which balances well with the sweet brioche.
Using a house blend of Colombian and Burundi roasted in house, the usual selection can be found: Black (3oz $4.50, 5oz $5, 8oz $5.50), White (3oz $4.50, 5oz $5, 8oz $5.50), Espresso Single $4, Double $4.50) and Filtered ($9).
Optional add-ons such as Soy (+$1), Oat (+$1.50) and Espresso shot (+$1) are available.
My cup of 5oz White ($5) was smooth and medium bodied, with distinctive notes of chocolate and berries.
With a new brunch spot serving the community in the Bukit Timah area, Bearded Bella will be a popular place for both cafehoppers and nearby residents and the paw-parents.
