Thomson Plaza Food Guide
When I was growing up, Thomson Plaza was a place for tuition classes and nothing more. It was almost like a forgotten mall, as not a single soul could be seen. Fast forward to present day, this mall has come back to life—thanks to its newly renovated interior and extensive selection of food.
From cheap chirashi don to collagen hotpot, and Peranakan chicken curry to lu rou fan, here are 15 Thomson Plaza food places for you to choose from.
1. Omoté
Omoté, formerly known as Sushiro, is known for serving a multitude of fresh and affordable Japanese fare. If you are spoilt for choice, try their renowned chirashi don, which comes in 11 different varieties. Go for their classic Omote Chirashi ($12.80++), for a simple but moreish meal. If not, feast on the Second-Gen Mount Chirashi ($38.80++) with your dining partner. This toothsome rice bowl comes with a mountain of assorted seafood so packed that it can feed more than two.
If sashimi is not for you, Omote also offers a range of fully-cooked mains such as Garlic Yakiniku Don ($18.80++), Salmon Belly Teriyaki Don ($25.80++) and more. Do remember to reserve a spot before heading down to avoid the queue!

Head down on Mondays with a dining buddy and enjoy their 1-for-1 Bara Chirashi Don ($15+). This bowl features a variety of toppings: diced sashimi, tamago and cucumbers, topped with a generous scoop of ikura and tobiko. If you are a fan of Japanese donburi, visit on Thursdays for their 1-for-1 Salmon Ikura Don ($15+), or Saturdays for their 1-for-1 Unagi Don ($24+).

The former includes an appetiser, a bowl of miso soup, free-flow rice and cabbage, and slices of watermelon to end the meal on a refreshing note.
If you can’t pick between tonkatsu and ramen, opt for Hajime’s Tonkatsu Ramen ($15.90++). This dish includes a rich tonkatsu base broth, with specially made Nama noodles, and a portion of crispy tonkatsu on the side.

However, if you are looking to enjoy their collagen soup without burning a hole in your pocket, opt for their selection of Beauty Collagen Ramen. For something simple, try their Bijin Men Shio ($16++) or Bijin Men Shoyu ($16++), which includes slices of chicken, a runny onsen egg, and a spoonful of bean sprouts in a milky broth. Alternatively, go for their Bijin Tan Tan Men ($18++) for a fiery kick.

First started as a humble hawker stall in 1989, Na Na Curry has since expanded to eight more outlets across Singapore, including their latest branch in Holland Village. Through the years, they have been recognised by many media outlets, including the Michelin Guide Singapore.
As their name suggests, they are best known for their rich and fiery curry. So while you’re there, try their signature curry, which comes with fish (from $28.90++), chicken ($8.90/$14.90++), or mutton ($11/90/$18.90++). This curry will favour the ones who have a high tolerance for spice as it is said to pack a punch.

9. Hokkaido-ya
Opened by Sushi Tei, Hokkaido-ya is a fast-casual and wallet-friendly restaurant. Although the menu is priced affordably, Hokkaido-ya ensures that the quality and quantity of each dish is not compromised.
We recommend trying their Aburi Mentai Bara Chirashi Don ($14.90+) for an assortment of sashimi, dressed with beautifully torched mentai. Otherwise, go for the Shirobuta Pork Katsu Hokkaido White Curry Rice ($12.90+). Thanks to the addition of Hokkaido milk, the white curry is milky and creamy as compared to the usual Japanese curry we are used to. This dish will surely be a hit with the kids!

Priced from $9.90++, Shi Li Fang offers a range of set meals that cater up to four diners. With the current COVID-19 situation, the most practical way to enjoy a hotpot meal is to have the whole pot all to yourself! So, consider the Single Value Set Meal ($9.90++), which includes combos such as Superior Marbled Pork Slices, Pork and Chicken, and many more. For an additional $0.80, you’ll get a free flow of refreshing drinks to wash away any greasiness from the hefty meal.

If you are in the mood for a bowl of wonton mee, go for Eng’s Wantan Noodle’s Dry Wantan Mee (from $4.50). It’s lightly tossed in a house-made sauce, and topped with blanched greens and lean char siew. To add an extra oomph, lightly drizzle their house-made chilli sauce as it is said to elevate the dish to a whole new level. But be warned: this chilli packs a punch, so go easy on it!
While you are there, consider adding on a portion of prawn fritters and ngoh hiang (from $6.60) to share. Do note that this is an Eng’s Heritage exclusive, so give it a try while you can!
