Acoustics Coffee Bar, previously known as Acoustic Cafe at Ang Mo Kio , has shifted to Neil Road (right opposite Apiary).
Many new entrants has opened along the stretch along Neil Road.
These include French pastry cafe Nuage Patisserie & Boulangerie, gelato shop Three Point Two, HaengBok CakeYo, Nordic-style cafe At3, cake cafe Dolc Patisserie, Kream & Kensho, Strangers’ Reunion to Plain Vanilla Bakery all along the same stretch.
The once 10-seater space at Ang Mo Kio has expanded to a 40-seater here at Neil Road, using materials to create a neutral sound environment with a better acoustics (thus the name).
Natural elements are incorporated using green plants, wooden flooring and rattan seats, with the space at the entrance being pet-friendly.
Other music elements include the wooden waveform structures seen hanging on the walls and two huge speakers to create the ambience.
Using fresh produce for all their dishes, expect All-Day-Brunch With Breakfast At Acoustics ($24), Acoustics’ Fluffy Pancakes ($12), Brie & Mushroom Croissant ($13), and Egg in A Hole ($14).
The Breakfast At Acoustics ($24) comes with a choice of Egg (Ramen Egg/ Scrambled/ Sunny Side Up), Cheese Sausage, Slow Baked Tomato, Maple Glaze Bacon, Roasted mushroom, Kale salad on a slice of sourdough.
The components are generally well-executed with the scrambled egg stealing the limelight with its moist and creamy texture.
The slow baked tomatoes were a mention, soft and tangy, adding a refreshing citrus punch to the combination.
The Mains menu starts from 11.30am with recommended dishes such as Roasted Chicken Pita Pouch ($14), Arrabiata ($16) and Laksa Cream ($20).
The crowd’s favourite was the Laksa Cream ($20), a dry version of our heritage local food, using spaghetti instead, topped with prawns and crispy tofu puffs.
Each strand of spaghetti is evenly coated with the creamy laksa cream sauce, with a nice balance of spiciness and citrus-ness.
The spaghetti is also al dente, a chewy texture in contrast to the crispy tofu puffs.
The Roasted Chicken Pita Pouch ($14) may not be a common find in local cafes, stuffed with small bits of chicken, topped with melted cheese, and served with cucumber raita and slow baked tomatoes on the side.
The Pita bread was on the chewier side, lightly toasted on the sides to give it a light crisp.
Even though the cucumber raita was refreshing and slightly sour, it may not be suitable for everyone due to the spices incorporated.
Compared to the savoury food options, the desserts menu is on the smaller scale, with only Strawberry & Cream ($7) and assorted pastries available.
The Strawberry & Cream ($7) came in the form of a deconstructed strawberry cheesecake, comes with smooth cream cheese that was light and fluffy, with a citrus tang.
The cookie crumble added a pleasant-tasting crunch and sweetness.
A single origin from Ethiopia, roasted by Prodigal Roasters is used for their espresso-based drinks: Espresso ($4), Black ($4.50), White (3oz $4.50, 7oz $5, 10z $5.50), Mocha ($6.50), Orange Mocha ($7), Spanish ($6.50).
Optional add-ons are available: Espresso shot (+$1), Honey (+$1), Hazelnut (+$1), Toffee Nut (+$1) and Iced (+$1).
My cup of Flat White ($5) had a medium roast, smooth with a medium body, with distinctive bright cherries notes.
Non-coffee drinkers can look forward to Tea (Hot $5/ Iced $6), Chocolate (Hot $5/ Iced $6) and Craft Soda ($6).
With a pet-friendly space and an ambience created for diners to enjoy the acoustics, Acoustics Coffee Bar can probably be the next hotspot near Outram.
