Anyone here knows what Sachima is? Sachima is a traditional Chinese snack that originated from Manchuria in the 1600s, which is now Northeast China. The snack is made up of fried dough crisps that are bounded together with maltose and sugar syrup. Fun fact, it was said that the snack gave army soldiers the energy to defeat their enemies! In Singapore, Pan Ji Cooked Food at Chinatown is where you can get your hands on handmade Sachima.

The stall owner Mr Poon, has been running Pan Ji Cooked Food at Chinatown Complex Food Centre since 1983 and has been serving freshly made Sachima to customers all over Singapore. Involving hours of heavy manual work, this stall is one of the few stalls in Singapore where you can find handmade traditional Chinese snacks.

Mr Poon kneads the dough, cuts them into strips, deep-fries them and then coats them in malt sugar. After it is coated, it is sliced into blocks. This results in a crispy sweet treat to the tastebuds, often compared by others to American Rice Krispies Treats.

The delectable snack is available in 3 sizes:

  • Small for $2.80
  • Medium for $5.50
  • Large for $6.50
