Without a doubt, bak chor mee is one of the favourite dishes in Singapore. There are several popular stalls scattered around the island that excels in this particular dish. Some say the dry-version of bak chor mee at Michelin-starred Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodles is excellent. Looking for the soup version? Here’s one you wouldn’t want to miss out on.
Xing Ri Rou Cou Mian Serves Soup-Style Bak Chor Mee
Established in 1968, Xing Ri Rou Cou Mian was initially located as a roadside stall in Changi. It made a move to the current location, Fengshan Market & Food Centre, in 1976. Unlike many other bak chor mee spots that offer the dry version and soup version, Xing Ri Rou Cou Mian only offers the soup version. Operating for so many years, this spot is recognised by Michelin Guide, too.
There are many good reasons why the bak chor mee here is a fan favourite among many. One of the noteworthy reasons is none other than their springy noodles. Although it is the soup version, the springy noodles definitely have an al dente texture. A spoonful of noodles with some umami soup is the best way to eat it. Additionally, the simple dish comes with a good amount of meatballs.
Many netizens commented that the meatballs taste fresh. Unlike any meatballs, it has a smooth texture. Collectively, it makes a perfect match with the noodles. The bak chor mee here can easily be the perfect dish for rainy days. Don’t be surprised by the number of people waiting in line to get their hands on a bowl, though. Queue-worthy is the right word to describe this sensational hawker stall.
