Head to Mediapolis, near one-north MRT Station, to find their first-ever outlet outside of Malaysia. They’re not to be confused with the similarly named Soon Huat Bak Kut Teh, or New Soon Huat, a local BKT chain that’s got outlets in Jalan Kayu, KINEX, and Ang Mo Kio.

Rather, Soon Huat JB Bak Kut Teh was founded in 1975 on Jalan Sutera Satu, and today they’re one of the most famous names for Malaysian-style BKT in the state. There are more than 20 outlets throughout JB, and they’re all said to be run by members of the same family!

If you’re never been to any of their shops in JB, here’s your chance to try their famous dishes without crossing the Causeway. You’ve got to try their Signature Bak Kut Teh (from $8+), beloved for its clear, savoury-sweet flavours and herbal note. It’s not clear whether the BKT here is cooked over charcoal fire like at their flagship stall in Taman Sentosa, but the broth should be pretty similar.

Other than BKT, some signature dishes that you’ll find here are Braised Pork Trotters (from $8.50+), Sesame Oil Chicken ($10+), and Ginger & Wine Chicken ($12+). Fans of Soon Huat love the Braised Pork Trotters, which are supposed stewed to meltingly tender, gelatinous ends, with a good amount of chew in the skin.

Their Ginger & Wine Chicken is also meant to be pretty stomach-warming, especially with the upcoming cooler, wetter months. This slow-cooked dish, with its lightly spicy flavours, is supposed to be great for expelling wind and aiding in blood circulation!
While the eatery is open from 8am on weekdays, do note that their BKT is only available from 10:30am.
