Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice at Old Airport Road Food Centre
Fans of Nic & Tom Eatery and their pig trotter rice can now head to another spot to satisfy your cravings—Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice is one of the latest openings at Old Airport Road Food Centre. As the name of the stall suggests, you’ll find that very dish here, sans service charge and GST.
This isn’t the only branch of Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice; originally known as Lin Ji Pig Leg Rice, they first opened at Albert Road Food Centre to great fanfare, and now have outlets across the island, including at Senja Hawker Centre.
Get Handmade Dry Mee Hoon Kueh By Ex-Salted And Hung Chef In Old Airport Road
The recipe behind their melt-in-your-mouth pig trotters, AKA ter kah, is said to have been learned in Longjiang in China, and excludes the use of dark soya sauce, salt, rock sugar, and MSG. According to their website, only premium, high-quality light soya sauce, herbs, and spices are used in the savoury braising liquid that you’ll get here.
A bowl of Pig Trotter Rice will set you back just $5.90, otherwise, you can opt for Pig Leg Rice, which is similarly priced. Served with long-grained jasmine rice, each of these also comes topped with fresh coriander, as well as preserved vegetables and slices of Prawn Cake ($4.80).
One of the must-order dishes at Nic & Tom Eatery is their Swirly Intestine ($9), which you’ll also find on the menu here at Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice. Other than this, you can get additional servings of Pig Trotter ($9.60) a la carte, or Lean Meat (from $18).
If you’re into innards, they’ve got Pig Intestine and Large Intestine too—both priced at $5 a portion. Get extra Salted Veg at $2 a bowl, and Fragrant Rice ($1) if you’re skipping the set.
