The Glasshouse opens their second cafe on Neil Road

Four years after The Glasshouse first started out in a pop-up cargo container at CHIJMES, the super popular cafe has now opened their second outlet on Neil Road. Located about seven minutes on foot from Outram Park MRT Station, Tanjong Pagar MRT Station, and the upcoming Maxwell MRT Station, this brand-new spot means The Glasshouse fans can now find their favourite brews and bakes in the CBD!

For those of us who haven’t been to their OG outlet at CHIJMES, the eponymous cafe is one of the pioneers of glasshouse-themed coffee and brunch spots around town. The Scandi-chic space, with its potted greens, lush sunlit space, and glass walls, was a shoo-in on the aesthetics front.

There may not be the same glass-fronted space at their Neil Road spot, but you can expect the same clean, tranquil vibes for sure. It’s also well-lit with natural light that pours in from the louvred and lattice-framed windows, typical of old-school shophouses.

If you’ve frequented the CHIJMES outlet, do note that the full menu will not be available at The Glasshouse on Neil Road for the time being, since they’re still in their soft launch phase. What you can get here are coffees and pastries, including Classic Plain Croissant ($6) and Banana Loaf ($8).

The Glasshouse is well-loved for their selection of specialty coffees, with beans sourced from various roasters. Prices start from $5.50 for a regular Black to $7.50 for a Mocha. Non-coffee drinkers can consider getting a cup of Single Origin Chocolate ($7.50) for a decadent treat.

While the full range of mains isn’t available at the moment, what you can look forward to hopefully at The Glasshouse’s Neil Road space include Tater-Yaki ($15), where tater tots sit under a bed of house-made Bulldog sauce, hanakatsuo bonito flakes, nori-dashi mayonnaise, chopped bacon bits, and furikake!

Besides the open-face sandwiches that they’re known for, a popular dish to get is the Hummus Sharing Platter ($24), where house-made hummus is topped with roasted eggplants, Calabrese peppers, charred cauliflower florets, vine-ripened cherry tomatoes, green Castelvetrano olives, pomegranates, za’atar and olive oil. It comes with toasted sourdough bread, and as its name suggests, it’s best for sharing!
