Cafe Natsu for Japanese-inspired brunch in Joo Chiat

Katong is home to numerous cafes and delicious hawker eats, including Supernova Cafe by Apollo Coffee Bar and popular hokkien mee stall Geylang Lor 29 Hokkien Mee. If you live in the area, here’s another one to add to your list: Cafe Natsu on Joo Chiat Road.

Supernova Cafe In Katong Has Gorgeous Decor And Brunch Fare, Run By Folks Behind Apollo Coffee Bar

Cafe Natsu is a beautiful Japanese-inspired cafe by Chef Lewis Barker of Sommer, and the same folks behind Chin Mee Chin Confectionery.

The space is brightly lit and open, with cosy nooks and spacious seatings that’ll make you feel right at home. The main colour schemes are pink and teal, as seen consistently throughout the cafe’s furnishings.

For mains, the Shio Kombu Gnocchi ($24++) is a must-try. The elegantly plated dish spotlights plump and chewy potato dumplings, tossed in a sweet kabocha pumpkin sauce, and coated in specks of salted kelp for a burst of umami.

The comforting dish is then topped with micro greens for a touch of freshness.

If you’re visiting for brunch, the Florentine ($30++) will not disappoint. This elevated brekkie item comes with spanner crab, wasabi spinach, and creamy miso hollandaise, served with perfectly poached eggs sitting on toasted English muffins.

Whatever you do, don’t leave without trying their popular Mochi Fried Doughnuts ($12++), served with sweet and creamy salted Hokkiado milk ice cream. The bite-sized doughnuts boast a thin and crispy exterior that’s lightly coated with cinnamon sugar, revealing a chewy mochi middle upon biting.
