Ground Floor Coffee in Pasir Ris
There are home-based businesses, and then there’s Ground Floor Coffee, a cafe that operates out of a single window on the ground floor of an HDB block in Pasir Ris. You might recognise it from TikTok, where it’s achieved some sort of viral internet fame. It’s even featured on Mashable for its unconventional location!

Run by self-taught barista Adhwa Hasif, Ground Floor Coffee sees a concise menu of six drinks: Latte ($4), Lavender Latte ($6), Vanilla Latte ($5), Caramel Latte ($5), Dark Mokka ($6), and Pure Chocolate ($5), with the option to add an Extra Shot for $1.

Of these, their bestsellers are the Lavender Latte, which features real lavender, and Dark Mokka, made with Adhwa’s secret blend of espresso, dark, and milk chocolate.

In spite of being a home-based business, Ground Floor Coffee’s prices are comparable to those in an actual cafe, mostly because he only uses premium coffee beans that he curates himself. The photographer by day even has specially printed logo stickers, cups, loyalty cards, as well as several field chairs for customers to complete the lepak experience.

There’s only one food item on the menu at Ground Floor Coffee—Kek Gula Hangus ($2.50), AKA burnt sugar cake—that Adhwa’s mum bakes fresh each day they’re open. If you aren’t familiar with this kek, it’s the colour it is thanks to the burnt sugar that goes into the batter, while it sports the same honeycomb structure as kueh ambon, which is more commonly seen.

Since Ground Floor Coffee is a side gig for Adhwa, the window cafe is only open on days which he isn’t working: namely Fridays to Sundays, with no predetermined opening hours. Keep an eye on their Instagram page for the latest information for the weekend!
