With many different restaurants popping up on Arab Street, it’s hard to find quality- time-tested spots. Well, we’re here to tell you that since 2015, Afterwit continues to serve quality Mexican food! In Singapore, you may notice how uncommon these types of dishes are. Oftentimes, you get pale imitations of popular Mexican dishes. At Afterwit, you can get both traditional, as well as unique Mexican food!

Opened in 2015, Afterwit is an eccentric restaurant with unique decor and food. Co-owners of Working Title, a cafe nearby, opens Afterwit- a Mexican Taqueria. Up until recently, there were little to no Mexican Halal restaurants in Singapore. Afterwit took this opportunity to introduce Singaporeans to classic Mexican dishes and drinks! Of course, their dishes do come with a twist.

Afterwit has actually undergone a facelift relatively recently. It now has a more industrial style. It is reminiscent of the streets of Mexico where walls are planted with all sorts of posters, scaffolding and pipes adding a gritty feel. The interior as a whole oozes a rustic, nightlife vibe that you might find familiar to a Pasar Malam. Also, there are all sorts of decorations that speak towards their attention to detail.

Mouth-Watering Mexican Dishes

You can’t have a Mexican feast without some awesome Nachos ($15.00)! While it is considered a snack, this can be a whole meal on its own. It has it all. Lightly salted corn chips, oozy and delicious nacho cheese, topped with Pico De Gallo, Guacamole and a choice of beef, chicken or lamb. Interestingly, this dish has a perfect balance! Between the rich and creamy nacho cheese, the tart and light Guac and Pico De Gallo and of course the tender meat- this dish is a balancing act that sticks the landing! Every bite is guaranteed to satisfy your every craving.

Time for a little twist! Their Banh Mi Tacos ($16.00) are a unique take on a classic Carne Asada Taco. It features mixed pickled vegetables, cured quail eggs and a choice of beef, chicken or lamb. Not only is it meaty, but it is also surprisingly refreshing. The pickled veg helps cut through the rich and savoury meat. The beef is tender and flavourful, likely spiced with a special blend. Also, the eggs are a welcome surprise!

One of their most iconic items has to be their Carne Asada Burrito ($16.00). This dish features tender and flavourful pulled beef, fatty beef bacon, braised black beans, roasted sweet potato, cheese, rice and Pico De Gallo. In addition, all these delectable components are enveloped by a thin tortilla shell! Also, all these components meld together to be a rich medley of deliciousness. However, you might want to share this item as it can be quite filling!
