Deanna’s Kitchen is named after the wife of Asri, one of the owners of the stall- alongside Deanna herself. Deanna spent years trying to find Halal Prawn Mee and they both decided that they would just make some themselves. They eventually found out that there were a lot of people that were looking for the same thing! And thus, Deanna’s Kitchen was born. Since then, they have served thousands of hungry customers that want a taste of their delicious Prawn Mee.

To prepare their famous Prawn mee, they would first create a broth. Originally, the recipe would require pork bones- but after much experimentation, they switched to prawn shells, anchovies and other parts of seafood, to create their version of Prawn Mee. This solves two things. Firstly, they reduce waste by reusing the shells of the seafood rather than throwing them out. Secondly, it recreates the rich flavour by concentrating the seafood taste in this dish.
Delicious And Satisfying Halal Prawn Mee
Their Big Prawn Mee ($7.80) is filled to the brim with deliciousness. It has 3 giant juicy prawns, sliced fishcakes and vegetables. The prawns are sweet which balances well with the umami-rich broth. We suggest adding chilli to add some more kick to this dish! However, that isn’t their only speciality. They also have four noodles of your choosing. Laksa noodles, Bee Hoon, Kway Teow or Yellow Mee are the options given to you. The Kway Teow noodles are great for the dry option, whereas the Yellow Mee is perfect for the soup option.
The soup itself is the star of this dish. Since their broth base is mainly seafood shells and anchovies, you can taste the fishy flavour- in a good way! The broth after hours of cooking is heady and rich. It is packed with umami and prawn flavour. Just one sip of it, and you’d be coming back for more! Also, you could add other seafood add-ons such as clams, crayfish, half shelled scallops and even more prawns! All of them are sweet and tender- definitely something you don’t want to miss!
