Most of us have probably eaten American pancakes before, but how about Thai pancakes? Also known as Khanom Khrok, they are coconut-rice pancakes and are a traditional Thai dessert! They are prepared by mixing rice flour, sugar, and coconut milk to form a dough, which is then cooked on a hot indented frying pan. Curious to try this unique dessert? Well, located at Golden Mile is Baan Kanom Thai, and it’s where you can find this sweet treat! Adding in a local twist with their Thai Pandan Pancakes, these tasty desserts are sure to hit the spot!

Tucked away in the Thai supermarket at Golden Mile Complex lies Baan Kanom Thai, owned by a husband-and-wife duo, Jaren, who is Singaporean and Fon, who is Thai. They first started off as a home-based business selling snacks and desserts, but it was their pancakes that soon caught everyone’s attention! After some time, they started gaining popularity for their amazing pancakes and even had over 3000 orders of them at one point! They continued working hard with their business to earn enough money to open their own shop, which they recently did on March 8 this year! Truly inspiring to see their hard work pay off!

Their Signature Thai Pandan Pancakes are served at 10pcs for $4 or 20 pcs for $7.50, Using their own secret recipe, the pancake mixture is prepared the day before. The vibrant green pancakes are shaped similar to that of the Malaysian kuih- Kuih Bahulu, except that the Thai pancakes are more chewy and moist! As soon as you open the box, the fragrant aroma of the pandan instantly hits you! Be sure to eat it immediately while it’s hot to enjoy the crispy edges that are reminiscent of your typical waffle!

Upon the first bite, the pandan flavour hits as soon it lands on your tastebuds! If you’re thinking all you’ll taste is pandan, that’s where you’re wrong! The pandan flavour is slowly balanced out by the sweet-savoury flavour of the pancake, giving you a harmony of flavours at the end! Additionally, it has a distinct taste that’s very similar to kueh bahulu as well! It’s definitely a unique and delicious dessert that’s worth a try!
