Established in 1987 at East Coast Seafood Centre, JUMBO Seafood 珍宝海鲜 needs little introduction. In fact, this is one of the first names that come to mind when we talk about Chilli Crabs and live seafood cooked Singapore-style.
JUMBO Seafood’s Award-Winning Chilli Crab has been highly-lauded and been consistently voted as one of the best in Singapore.
Favourites crab styles include the popular Signature Black Pepper Crab, Stir Fried with Golden Salted Egg Crab, and Steamed Crab with Chinese Wine and Egg White. The price of crabs starts from $83 for an 800g mud crab for Oddle Eat’s islandwide delivery.
The award-winning Chilli Crab features live crabs drenched in a mouth-watering sauce created with a myriad of over 10 different Southeast Asian spices including chillies, turmeric, lemongrass, candlenuts and tau cheo (Chinese fermented bean paste).
The flavourful blend of spiciness tinged with a sweet sourness has that eggy fragrance that complements the freshness of crab.

HACK IT

Opening Hours: 11am – 2pm, 5pm – 9pm (Mon – Sun)
Islandwide Delivery: https://hackit.oddle.me
“HACK IT” is a term used to describe the action of cracking or smashing, and exudes the attitude of seizing the day.
You will be having fresh seafood prepared with JUMBO’s specially created sauces with Southeast Asian flavours, sent right to your house.
Seafood items are placed in bags, poured out ‘ceremoniously’ on tables, and diners eat straight from there with hands or gloves. Can be messy but a fun option to consider for family meals.
HACK IT’s seafood packs have that extra edge because the seafood is wok-fried with sauce (wok-hei!) rather with sauces just mixed or tossed over boiled seafood.
There are various distinctive sauce bases to choose from, which includes Chilli Crab, Black Pepper, Hot and Spicy Mala (additional cost), Smooth Creamy Butter, and newly launched Nonya Sauce.
This is to be paired with one of the four curated specialty packs of ‘Xiao Long Xia’ In A Pack ($40), Crab In A Pack ($66), Lobster In A Pack ($66), and Deluxe Seafood Pack ($108).
The idea is to pick your favourite seafood + sauce combinations. So even Xiao Long Xia with Chilli Crab sauce is a reality. There is also a complimentary choice of carbs, including Instant Noodles, Penne, Garlic Fried Rice and Steamed Rice.
My favourite combi is the Crab In A Pack + Chilli Crab Sauce. Don’t forget about the mantous.

Dancing Crab is known for its American-style seafood blended with the distinctive richness of Singapore seafood cuisine.
Backed by one of Singapore’s oldest seafood restaurant leaders, TungLok Group, Dancing Crab sources their shellfish from the same vendors used at the group’s best seafood restaurants, offering a range from Boston lobster to Dungeness crab.
Top-selling items on Oddle Eats are the Live Crab Combo ($105.90, for 2-4 pax) with 1 Live Crab (approx. 800g each), Prawn (350g), Clam (300g), Corn, Sausage; Crab Fried Rice ($16), Garlic Soy Sauce Wing ($10.90), and of course the Live Lobster Roll with Cajun Fries ($45).

Orchid Live Seafood has been around since 1999, originally located at Orchid Country Club.
Now you do not have to travel to Jalan Kelulut or Yishun to try their food, as you can get them delivered to you. (Free islandwide delivery with min spending of $120).
The restaurant is known to be the originator of the famed Lobster Porridge (from $70), and also one of the largest, if not the largest importer of lobsters in Singapore. The lobsters are as fresh as it gets, come from the ‘live’ tanks right outside.
The Lobster Porridge is cooked Teochew style, with a watery base and rice still mainly in grain form.
Upon drinking the robust broth cooked for more than 4 hours, the draw was its superbly tasty sweetness, coming from the natural flavours and juices of the lobsters.
The other special dish is the Steven Chicken (from $14). Chicken pieces are skillfully sliced to take on the appearance of pork ribs, where the main portion of meat is pushed down to the end. You can hold the chicken up by the bone, and bite the meat off as you would with ribs.
Marinated with marmite sauce and honey, sprinkled with white sesame seeds, the deep-fried Steven Chicken pieces are succulent and sweet-tasting.
There are 6 different Set Menus available – all included with the Lobster Porridge, and the most affordable Set Menu for 2 ($95) has Live Lobster Porridge (600g), Steven Chicken, Stir-Fry Baby Kai Lan with silver fish, and Topshell Crispy Toufu.

Crab lovers should be familiar with House of Seafood located at The Punggol Settlement.
Other than regular favourites of Chill Crab, Golden Creamy Butter Crab, Signature Salted Egg Crab, and Original Indonesian Baked Crab, the restaurant takes pride for its award-winning Best Black Pepper Crab and a bevy of seafood specialties.
House of Seafood’s Black Pepper Crab (from $75) uses the freshest crabs and has a strong peppery taste without being too spicy. The pepper doesn’t overpower the natural sweetness of the crab meat.
Do not miss the house special Fried White Bee Hoon with XO Sauce and Seafood ($10, $14, $18). This best-selling Singapore noodle dish comes with large fresh prawns and vegetables fried in seafood broth with wok-hei.
Interestingly, they also introduced “Giant Buns” (from $26.92) which includes stuffing of Black Pepper Crab Meat, Curry Chicken, Chilli Crab Meat or even Musang Durian wrapped within the bread. Pre-ordering is required for these buns.

Roland Restaurant
89 Marine Parade Central, #06-750, Singapore, 440089
Tel: +65 6440 8205
Opening Hours: 12pm – 3pm, 5pm – 9:45pm (Mon – Sun)
Islandwide Delivery: https://rolandrestaurant.oddle.me
You cannot talk about Chilli Crabs without a mention of Roland Restaurant, known to be the creator of the iconic Chilli Crabs and mecca for crab devotees.
Of course, some other restaurants also do lay claim on that honours, but probably none has “The Year 1956 – Founder Of Chilli Crab” printed on the menu. The seafood restaurant was founded by a couple, Mr Lim Choon Ngee and Mdm Cher Yam Tian, and named after their son.
The Chilli Crab recipe ($98 for 2×500 grams crabs for online delivery) was created by Mdm Cher herself, and the original version had neither no eggs nor sambal, and served accompanied by mantou for dipping into the sauce.
Compared to most Singaporean seafood restaurants, their chili sauce was more red than orange, and its savoury taste mildly spicy and slightly sweet.
On a side note, Olympic champion Joseph Schooling is also said to be a fan of their crabs.
Other specialties at Roland include Fried Prawns with Salted Egg and Pumpkin ($25), Live Frogs in Chinese Herbal Stock ($22), Stir Fried Asparagus with Japanese Mushrooms ($20), Poached Prawns ($33), and Crispy Baby Squids ($15).
There are 3 types of Promotional Set Menus, meant for 4, 6 or 8 pax, with the 4 pax Set priced at an inexpensive $78.80.

No Signboard Seafood
Harbourfront Walk, #03-02 Vivo City, Singapore, 098585
Tel: +65 6376 9959
Opening Hours: 12pm – 8:30pm (Mon – Sun)
Islandwide Delivery: https://nosignboardseafood.oddle.me
When you talk about some of the best White Pepper and Chilli Crabs in Singapore, No Signboard Seafood will certainly be a shoo-in.
The No Signboard White Pepper Crab (starting from $96.30 for Mud Crab 800g – 900g) is perhaps the restaurant’s most iconic dish, so much so that Madam Ong is often credited for creating the White Pepper Crab dish in Singapore.
The idea came about because many restaurants were offering the black pepper version, and the white pepper crab would be more unique, flavourful and still bring out the natural flavours of the crab.
I thought that what makes this stand-out was that there was a distinct fragrance and taste of the white pepper, but it does not overwhelm the sweetness of the meat.
The crabs also come with a base of Korean rice vermicelli, something you would find in a dish of japchae. The vermicelli is simmered with the crab and sauces for some time, so that it absorbs those flavours, while still staying slightly firm and chewy.
Recommended is a Combo Set B ($222.56, for 2-4pax) with Signature White Pepper Crab (800g-1kg), Crispy Cereal Prawns (6pcs), Scallop with Broccoli, Half Deep Fried Butter Chicken, and Yee Fu Noodle.

Seafood Paradise
1 Harbourfront Walk VivoCity, #01-53, Singapore, 098585

Opening Hours: 10:30am – 9pm (Mon – Sun)

Seafood Paradise was the first of 11 concepts under the Paradise Group. It became famous for its live seafood and local cuisine done in different innovative cooking methods.
A Seafood Paradise original dish, the Signature Creamy Butter Crab topped with Coconut Crumbs ($92.70 for 1kg) is a dish you shouldn’t miss.
This all-time bestseller features a large Sri Lankan crab renowned for its firm flesh with a naturally sweet-savoury taste.
It is served on a pool of creamy buttery sauce made fresh daily.
Magic happens when the crab meat soaks up all the flavours in the sauce – from aromatics like curry leaves, lemon grass, white pepper, and chili padi.
Other than the Creamy Butter Crabs, other popular styles for your crabs are Singapore-style Chilli, Salted Egg Yolk, Black Pepper, White Pepper, Wok-Fried with Bee Hoon, and Steamed with Chinese Wine.
One of my other Crab favourites would be the Sri Lankan Crab Wok-Fried with Bee Hoon. Instead of cooking separately, the bee hoon would be braised with the crabs.
Therefore, the essence of the crab meat would be seeped and absorbed by the vermicelli, giving every strand fuller flavours.

Swatow Seafood Restaurant is renowned for its harder-to-find Teochew dishes. The founder Dr Jimi Tan, has put together well-known chefs from Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong to create a myriad of seafood, vegetarian dishes, appetisers and desserts.
A range of quintessential Teochew dishes can be found on its menu including Teochew Braised Sliced Duck (from $17.60), Swatow Signature Chicken (from $22), Chilled Jellied Pork Knuckle ($13.20), Crispy Prawn Roll ($13.20), and even Teochew Chilled Sliced Braised Pig’s Head ($13.20).
Teochew cuisine is traditionally known for its healthiness and freshness of its food, especially the seafood dishes. This classic dish of Teochew Cold Crab (from $40) contained crabs full of ‘gao’, with natural sweetness of yellow-roe crabs without the ‘muddiness’.
The Teochew Braised Sliced Duck with Beancurd (from $17.60) retained the succulence and much of the natural taste of the meal, with use of relatively light flavouring and seasoning.
Also available is the “Home-cook Deluxe Food” ($48.80 for 4 pax) with Braised Kampung Chicken with Herbs (chilled), Sauteed King Oyster Mushroom in X.O. sauce, Imperial Fried Egg with Shredded Duck Meat, Swatow Fried Rice with Crabmeat & Kai Lan, and Dessert of the Day. Some of you may not know that HolyCrab has relocated to The Capitol Singapore. The bigger space and kitchen at the new venue also means that Chef Elton has the opportunity to showcase many of his previously secret recipes.
HolyCrab offers bold, distinct flavours, not missing out on the wok hei.
Some of the creative dishes offered you can find on Oddle Eats are the Cow Peh Cow Bu ($128) – a dish of Moroccan Wagyu Beef Ribs, Signature HolyCrab Fried Rice ($16), and Capricorn ($16) made of corn kernels each painstakingly coated with salted egg yolk sauce.
HolyCrab is probably the only restaurant in Singapore to serve up this version of Green Chilli Crab called the Green Mumba ($128, 1.2kg – 1.4kg), and so the ‘excitement’ comes because you would have no prior experience for comparison.
Packed with bold, traditional Asian flavours, this semi-spicy crab dish showcases Chef Elton’s signature savoury green chilli sauce using 12 different ingredients.
While the appearance of the dish looked “Thai”, I would say it was closer to a Peranakan-style with a semi-thick sauce that was rather aromatic and possibly very addictive.
