Best Batam cafes
Cafes in Batam aren’t merely more affordable than their Singapore counterparts—they can also be just as good. In this listicle, we introduce you to 10 of the best Batam cafes, including a floating cafe, pâtisserie, and a board games haven.
1. Anchor Cafe & Roastery
With an extensive list of beans and brewing methods to choose from, Anchor Cafe & Roastery is where you’ll find some of the finest cups of coffee in Batam. A 24 oz CHEMEX Brew with Geisha, Colombia Beans (Rp 50,000+/~S$4.70), for instance, boasts the kind of complex flavour profile that coffeeholics go gaga over—it is said to have hints of chamomile, passion fruit, and lavender.
As for eats, the All American Patty Melt (Rp 100,000+/~S$9.50) is a hearty and scrumptious pick. This well-toasted sandwich features a thick burger patty, caramelised onions, melted cheddar cheese, and a house-made Thousand Island dressing.

2. Level Up Coffee and Floating Bar
Imagine enjoying a cup of coffee—or beer, for that matter—on a floating platform, with gorgeous nature-filled scenery all around you. If you arrive at night, a live band will be performing there, regaling you with catchy tunes. That’s the experience you’ll get at Level Up Coffee and Floating Bar, Batam’s first “floating” cafe-cum-bar.
Level Up serves a wide variety of dishes, too. Western fare, including the Sirloin Steak (Rp 98,000/~S$9.22), tends to go great with beer or coffee, while dishes such as the Nasi Goreng Salmon (Rp 50,000/~S$4.70) are perfect for those who want meals with a local flair.

3. Hoods Coffee
A personal favourite of mine, Hoods Coffee offers great specialty coffee and a diverse range of eats. Coffee purists can enjoy excellent local beans with the Hand Brew (Rp 40,000+/~S$3.80+) of their choice—we recommend the Tirto Weling beans, which yield a light, sourish, and slightly nutty coffee.
Food-wise, there are both Western and Japanese mains to choose from. The Truffle Beef Donburi (Rp 88,000+/~S$8.40+), with its fragrant aroma and umami beef slices, is a popular choice. For dishes on the sweeter side of things, try the Caramel Walnut Croffle (Rp 26,000+/~S$2.50+) or Cheddar Cheese Scone (Rp 32,000+/~S$3+).

4. Olive & Co
Located inside the apartment building One Residence, Olive & Co boasts a beautiful view of the sea. It is also notable for its Western fusion fare, including the Spaghetti Aglio Olio Wagyu Beef Rendang (Rp 80,000++/~S$7.50), which combines the fragrance and spiciness of rendang with aglio olio’s garlicky taste.
There are also plenty of burgers to try here, the most interesting of which is the Mushroom Truffle Burger (Rp 65,000++/~S$6.10++). A juicy mushroom patty is joined by cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and liberal amounts of truffle oil—the result is a hearty burger that’s a delight to the senses.

As you compete with your friends, you can indulge in snacks such as the Choco Cheese Stick (Rp 22,000+/~S$2+) and Sate Taichan Kulit (Rp 27,000+/~S$2.50+). Don’t forget a sugary drink to keep your mind alert—the Iced Green Tea Latte (Rp 29,000+/~S$2.70+) should fit the bill nicely.

For a good plate of pasta, try the Alfredo Fettuccine with Grilled Chicken (Rp 43,000/~S$4), a combination of creamy pasta plus smoky chicken.
