The Artisan Cafe has kakigori and sando in Bugis
Bugis is brimming with cafes—Finally Coffee selling egg tart scones and Tarik Cafe with really good teh tarik are just some examples. But among all these, I haven’t seen one that offers kakigori such as Art Ice in Maxwell until recently, when I walked past The Artisan Cafe near Bugis MRT Station.

At the time of writing, there isn’t an online menu that introduces all nine different flavours of Japanese shaved ice at this cafe. But we know there’s the Black Sesame Kakigori here, and it’s said to be a lovely combination of a nutty, bittersweet shaved ice topped with house-made mochi. FYI, you can opt for either the Small ($6.90+) or Large ($12.90+) across all flavours.

Another popular pick is the Matcha Azuki Kakigori, layered with mildly sweet matcha syrup and red bean paste. Otherwise, there are offbeat flavours available for you to try such as the Guava Sake Kakigori. This one’s said to be rather bitter given the addition of alcohol, so try it only if you like something that packs a punch.

Desserts aside, there’s an extensive range of rice, pasta, and sides to fill yourself up. Out of the five pasta flavours, the Chilli Soft Shell Crab ($17+) seems to be the hot pick as the sweet-spicy noodles comes generously topped with a deep-fried soft shell crab.

Pair your mains with their sides ranging 15 different kinds, including the classic Buffalo Wings ($12+), the spicy Mala Karaage ($13+), the sweet-tangy Thai Squid ($15+), and some fresh Oyster Shooters ($15+).
I’m equally excited to give their wallet-friendly sandos a try, with the Egg Sando ($5.90+), Mushroom Sando ($5.90+), and Lobster Sando ($10.90+) on the top of the must-try list.
