The Flour Department has cute bagels in Everton Park

Home to charming bakeries, legit coffee spots, and other hidden gem eats, it’s no surprise that we’re big fans of the Everton Park neighbourhood. The next time you’re thinking of visiting the foodie haven for weekend brunch, add The Flour Department to your list.

Formerly a home-based business, The Flour Department is run by a French-trained pastry chef, Julie Tay. They formerly operated out of a cafe along Upper Cross Street, but moved to the Everton Park area fairly recently. They’re slowly transitioning to accommodate walk-ins, but it’s worth noting that they’re open on select days only, so keep an eye out for their schedule on their Instagram

Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by an adorable pink space that’s aligned with the coquette aesthetic that’s currently all the rage.

The Flour Department is best known for their super inventive savoury and sweet bagel sandwiches—think tang yuan-filled bagels and such. The menu regularly changes here, and flavours tend to be available weekly, or while stocks last.

Currently, they have around seven flavours on the menu, with interesting flavour combos such as Bailey’s Nutella Cookies & Cream Banana Choc Chip Bagel ($15)—yes, all that in one bagel sandwich.

There’s been heaps of buzz online for their Curry Katsu Cheese Scramble Egg Bagel ($15), thanks to how cute the bagel looks. Tay has chosen to make bagel buns coloured and shaped like a tomato, for visual oomph.

Another must-try is their Matcha Cookie Pistachio Basque Cheesecake Bagel ($14). This takes the recent croissant cookie trend and applies that to the bagel. Diners can expect a matcha cookie-bagel hybrid, with ooey-gooey pistachio praline, a slice of cheesecake, and matcha ganache in the middle.

Most of their items are available for dine-in and takeaway, but The Flour Department has also recently launched dine-in-only specials. For now, it’s a Mentaiko Rosti Cheese Garlic Butter French Toast Bagel (TBD), and a Pure Pistachio Tang Yuan Dessert (TBD). The latter is a must-try if you love pistachio, as you get glutinous rice balls stuffed with the nut butter. 

Aside from bagels, diners can also expect stuffed mochi cookies, Paris Brest desserts, cakes and more on rotation. A lean drinks menu is also available, featuring either Black (TBD) or White Coffee (TBD), and house-made concoctions such as a Strawberry Mochi Milk Latte (TBD).
