Pop Thai has mochi waffles and burnt sugar toast in Orchard

With a name like Pop Thai, you’d expect this new snack store in Orchard to be all about traditional Thai snacks. But that’s not quite the case—though Thai flavours are an influence, it’s the fusion of diverse culinary traditions that really sets their offerings apart. These unique combinations include mochi waffles, burnt sugar toasts, and even oden with flavoursome soup bases.

Let’s begin with the mochi waffles. Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, these freshly baked waffles blend the familiar texture of mochi with the classic appeal of waffles. Better yet, they come in numerous flavours, such as the Cookies & Cream Mochi Waffle ($5.70), Mochi Waffle with Chocolate Sauce ($4.50), and Tiramisu Mochi Waffle ($5.50).

Our favourite was the Mochi Waffle with Roasted Sugar ($4.50). The texture of these chewy waffles, combined with fragrant and sweet caramelised sugar, makes this an addictive snack to have at any time of the day.

Pop Thai’s oden is very much worth checking out, too. Start by choosing from three types of broth—Thai Tom Yum Broth, Mala Milk Broth, and Dashi Broth—then select your skewers, with options including Sausage ($1.30 per stick), Fishballs ($1.70 per stick), Cheese Tofu ($2.50 per stick), and Korean Fish Cake ($1.80 per stick). For a heartier meal, you can add Udon ($2.60) or Instant Noodles ($1.50) to your oden as well.

While the piquant and slightly sour Thai Tom Yum made for a great soup base, we enjoyed the Mala Milk broth best. The fiery and numbing mala soup pairs well with the creamy milk, creating a well-balanced broth that enhances any skewer you dip into it.

There’s also the burnt butter sugar toasts to try here. These come in flavours such as Thick Burnt Sugar Toast with Coffee Custard ($4.50), Thick Burnt Sugar Toast with Chocolate Custard ($5), Thick Burnt Sugar Toast with Pandan Custard ($4.50) and more.
