Kageyama has affordable chicken ramen at Suntec City
Suntec City is home to many famous eateries of various cuisines such as Sotpot and Sen-ryo. The latest addition to this mall is Kageyama, an award-winning ramen chain from Tokyo, Japan.
Sotpot Review: Traditional Korean Rice Pot And Steamed Meat Restaurant At Suntec
Kageyama prides itself on its signature tori-paitan soup, a chicken broth that is thick, rich and creamy after hours of simmering. Using the tori-paitan broth as its base, there are three different soup options for patrons to choose from—shio, shoyu, and tan tan men. Prices start from $10.90+, depending on the toppings you choose.
Food at Kageyama
We decided to order a bowl of ramen for each of the three aforementioned soup options, as well as a plate of fried cuttlefish for sharing.
Priced at $11.90+, the signature Chicken Breast Ramen (Shio) was served piping hot. The dish came with several pieces of green and red cabbage, some fried shallots, saffron threads, half an egg, and shreds of chicken breast. There was also a lemon wedge on the side.
While the broth was salty, it did not overpower the other ingredients. In fact, the soup helped to enhance the flavour of the chicken breast. As someone who enjoys dishes that are stronger in flavour, this bowl of noodles was right up my alley.
The waiter said we could squeeze the lemon to neutralise the soup if it got too salty. Personally, I felt that adding the lemon made no significant difference as I could barely taste the sourness, and the soup still tasted similar to before. Nonetheless, all the ingredients complemented the broth and did not leave me feeling thirsty.
Something my colleague and I thought was unique was the type of ramen Kageyama used. The noodles were cooked al dente and retained a slightly chewy texture even after sitting in the broth for a bit, which I appreciated.
Up next was the Cha Shu Ramen (Shoyu) at $14.90+. It came with three pieces of cha shu alongside similar ingredients as the shio ramen. As the name suggests, the key ingredient of this broth is soy sauce, hence the soup was slightly darker.
The shoyu broth had a rich, umami flavour which made the soup incredibly satisfying. It had a smoky aftertaste, perhaps due to the braised cha shu. The noodles also had a chewy texture, but they did not absorb the broth well. However, the cha shu was quite tender and melt-in-your-mouth, which kept me wanting more after each bite.
Finally, we also tried their highly recommended signature Original Tan Tan Men ($14.90+). This soup base is slightly different from the above-mentioned as the broth was much thicker and contained some roasted peanuts and minced meat. The broth was slightly piquant, but it should be manageable for those of you who are unable to tolerate spice well.
Both my colleague and I enjoyed this bowl of noodles as we agreed that the soup was much more flavourful. The roasted peanuts enhanced the taste, adding a nutty flavour as well as a crunchy texture at the same time.
After we finished our noodles, our waiter handed us a small spoonful of rice, which we could add to the tan tan men broth. At this point, the broth had become quite thick, having absorbed all the flavours from the ingredients. However, we were unable to enjoy this as we felt that the soup had become too salty for us.
For sides, we ordered the fried cuttlefish ($6.90+), which was fried till golden brown. While this was an addictive snack, I felt that the cuttlefish was a little tough and difficult to chew. However, this is a small issue as my colleague and I both thought that the cuttlefish was seasoned well.

Ambience at Kageyama
Even though the eatery was packed with the lunch crowd when we went on a weekday afternoon, the waiters still kept a smile on their faces and did their best to accommodate everyone. The space is quite small, so do come by earlier to get a seat!
Kageyama is located on the second level of Suntec City’s Tower 3, a five-minute walk from Promenade MRT Station Exit C.
The verdict
For an eatery located in Suntec City, prices at Kageyama are quite affordable. My personal favourite is the tan tan men broth as I appreciated the nutty taste of the roasted peanuts. However, the soup can get quite salty afterwards, but I believe there is room for improvement given that Kageyama has just opened.
