Whether you’re in VivoCity to shop, or are heading over to Sentosa for a day in the sun, consider stopping by the newly opened Good Stuff! in Food Republic @ VivoCity first for some handmade yong tau foo that’s paired with a flavourful fish soup.

This is the second ever Good Stuff! outlet, with the first located in Lorong Chuan. When we visited the latter last year, we were impressed with the high-quality ingredients, especially those in the Family Delight Set ($26.90). This set comes with 24 fried yong tau foo pieces, including tau kwa, youtiao, and fried dumplings, along with a sizeable bowl of fish soup.

Good Stuff Review: XL Handmade Yong Tau Foo Platter With Umami Fish Soup In Lorong Chuan

We were particularly impressed with the hand-stuffed tau kwa, which was slightly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. It also had a fish paste filling that made this treat even more savoury.

Remember to dip these yong tau foo pieces into either the sweet sauce or the Thai chilli sauce for extra flavour.

The soup is wonderful, because unlike your usual yong tau foo soup made with ikan bilis and soybeans, the fish stock gives the soup a rich umami flavour and a milky consistency. There’s also plenty of mani cai in the soup, which adds some sweetness to the overall flavour.

Get yourself some Hakka Noodles ($2) to complete the experience. The springy, chewy noodles in this dish are elevated by a piquant sambal chilli that’s addictive to the senses.
