Kantin Review: Authentic Bornean Food At Jewel Changi—Sarawak Laksa, Sotong Bakar And More
Shortly after you place your order, a huge tray of crumble that’s meant to resemble cat litter is brought to your table. Tucked within the crumble are little chocolate logs that look very similar to cat poop; you’re supposed to dig each one up using the provided shovel and transfer them to your plate.
The thought of eating cat poop almost made me gag, but the fragrance of the buttery crumble was enticing. The chocolate logs tasted similar to a brownie—the bite-sized pieces were dense and fudgy with a rich chocolate flavour.
While the whole set-up looked believable, like it was a real tray of cat litter and poop, the actual dessert tasted rather delicious. I’d say don’t knock it until you try it!
Kantin sits on Level 5 of Jewel Changi, a short walk from Changi Airport MRT Station.
While you’re there, try out their wide array of legit Bornean dishes, including the Headhunter Pansuh Set ($32++), a platter of slow-cooked chicken, purple rice and three side dishes: paku AKA wild fern, bamboo shoots, and anchovies with pickled onions. Their Sotong Bakar ($18++), which boasts a smoky scent and char, is another popular pick.
