Bread Yard has pasta from $8++ in One-north
Bread Yard, located within One-north’s bustling business centre Fusionopolis, is a popular spot for cafe hoppers and office workers alike.
While it is more known for its artisanal bakes and brunch items, the cafe recently launched a super affordable offer that’ll appeal to just about anyone: you can get six types of high-quality pasta for just $8++!
Food at Bread Yard
My colleague and I headed down to check out this good deal for ourselves. We ordered three pasta dishes, which we thought would give us a gauge of the quality of Bread Yard’s pasta.
We first tried the Malfadine Pesto, which had a bright green colour and a strong pesto aroma.
While the pasta was highly aromatic, I found the taste somewhat lacking. The pesto flavour was quite subtle and, to make matters worse, the noodles were slightly overcooked. The saving grace was the grada paadano cheese, which gave the dish an addictive savouriness.
The Mentaiko Pasta was our next dish. The $8 version comes with just spaghetti, mentaiko sauce, and furikake, but we recommend adding an onsen egg ($2++) and smoked salmon ($6++) for protein.
This was my personal favourite, because the mentaiko sauce was loaded with umami and creamy goodness. The onsen egg added an extra layer of creaminess to the pasta, too. Finally, the fresh and smoky salmon paired well with the rest of the dish, making it feel more balanced and substantial.
Moving on, we tried the Fetuccine Miso Cream Pasta. This pasta dish featured a unique miso butter sauce mixed with grana padano cheese.
This is a perfect example of why you should not judge a book by its cover: it might look plain, but each bite packed a flavourful punch of creamy miso flavour. The sauce also coated each pasta strand evenly. However, it did get a bit cloying after a while, so we would recommend you share this pasta with others instead.
Besides pasta, Bread Yard also offers a variety of sides for you and your dining companions to share. We enjoyed the Spicy Buttermilk Wings ($12++) that came with a house-made hot mayo sauce. The chicken was marinated well and super tender!
Another dish to shout out to is the Burratina, Parma Ham, and San Marzano Salad ($24++), featuring fresh slices of parma ham, salad, and of course rich burrata cheese.
To end your meal, we recommend getting the Chocolate Fudge Cake ($14++). My colleague loved how rich and decadent the chocolate fudge was. It was also served warm, which meant it went perfectly with the cold vanilla ice cream.
