Many know Bomul Samgyetang at Chijmes for its comforting bowls of Korea’s iconic ginseng chicken soup, but in March, the brand is turning down the heat with a cool new twist. Enter its first-ever gelato bar concept, located right outside the restaurant.

While it may not be as extensive as the restaurant’s whopping 10 different soups, the gelato bar still offers a lineup of unique artisanal flavours. Diners can enjoy these refreshing scoops in a relaxed outdoor setting after their meal, providing the perfect palate cleanser.

You’ll be greeted by two rows of pozzetti-style gelato cases featuring six different flavours at $7 per scoop. Most of them carry a clear influence from traditional medicinal ingredients, including Ginseng, Black Sesame, Mulberry & Bay Leaf, and Chrysanthemum & Goji Berry.

However, the two outlier options were what impressed me the most, starting with their Dubai Double Black Chocolate. This indulgent creation is proof that the Dubai chocolate craze is here to stay.

The rich dark chocolate gelato is topped with a crisp kunafa layer, adding a delicate crunch and buttery sweetness that contrasts beautifully with the deep cocoa notes. Although we wished that they had been more generous with the kunafa, it certainly created a nice balance that allowed both elements of the dessert to shine.

That same satisfying nuttiness was also present in their Roasted Bronte Pistachio, which carries a subtle roasted depth that enhances the natural sweetness of the pistachio flavour. It is also topped with chopped pistachio pieces, adding a delightful texture to the creamy gelato.

To beat the unforgiving sun, you can opt for the Mulberry & Bay Leaf for a refreshing berry taste, with a subtle herbal twist from the bay leaf.

On the other hand, the Black Sesame option carries a distinct smokiness, creating a rich and bold flavour profile.

Although we weren’t the biggest fans of the Ginseng and Chrysanthemum & Goji Berry flavours as they had a medicinal taste, they might appeal to those seeking lighter, health-conscious choices.

Each scoop is normally priced at $7, but there’s a sweet deal for fans—Bomul Gelato Tuesday lets you enjoy your favourite gelato for just $1 per cup. The promotion runs every Tuesday from 17 March to 28 April, 2pm to 5pm, and is limited to the first 300 cups each day.

Even without the deal, the quality in every cup of gelato easily justifies the price. With unique and thoughtful flavours you likely won’t find anywhere else, each scoop feels meticulously crafted and refreshingly bold. As the sun continues to beat down on Singapore, we suggest you mark this spot down for your next dessert run!
