Bakery 1946 is a popular Korean bakery with a pop-up in Bugis

Last August, Market Blue collaborated with two famous Korean bakeries, where they launched a limited-time pop-up with more than 50 types of bread. This time, one of the bakeries, Bakery 1946, is back with another pop-up in Bugis with new items on the menu. The booth will be in Singapore till 10 March 2024, so get your hands on these buns while they’re still available.

Market Blue To Have Pop-Up With Famous Korean Bakeries, Get Over 50 Types Of Bread

For easy access, it’d be helpful to note that the pop-up is held at Bugis Junction, near the side entrance of InterContinental Hotel on level one.

You can expect familiar flavours, including the popular Mammoth Bread ($6.90) and K-Apple Bread ($35.50 for six). But this time, we were more excited about the new additions: grocery-themed breads and a Korean-style macaron set.

Let’s start with the adorable series of fruit- and vegetable-themed bread—our favourite was the Whole Chestnut Bread ($3.90). The combination of a mildly sweet roasted chestnut filling and a hint of coffee flavour was just chef’s kiss.

The runner-up would be their Corn Bread ($3.90), which features a really chewy bread packed with corn kernels and cream cheese. There was something about this bread that had me going back for more—plus, I liked that the corn flavour wasn’t overbearing!

Anti-fans of carrots might have a different opinion of the Carrot Bread ($3.90) here as you can barely taste the vegetable.

The mochi-like bread is said to be made of actual carrots, and it’s nicely filled with sweet cream cheese and bits of carrots.

We were a little sceptical about the Garlic Manju ($3.90) at first as it resembled a clove of garlic. But this savoury treat was surprisingly good—within the semi-crusty bread was a smooth white bean paste with a hint of garlic taste in every bite.

Their Sweet Potato Bread ($5.20) will be on my mind for a while. You get a really soft, chewy, and stretchy bread with a sweet potato paste that isn’t too dense and firm.

Something similar would be the Sweet Pumpkin Bread ($3.90), just that this comes with a pumpkin bean paste that tastes sweeter than the sweet potato paste.

If you’d like to try more traditional Korean flavours, get their Yakgwa Macaon Set ($15 for six) that comes nicely packed in a gift box. For those who aren’t familiar with yakgwa, just think of a deep-fried cookie that’s really chewy and sweet. There are three different flavours in a set: green tea, strawberry, and blueberry. You get two pieces of each flavour in a single box!
