If you crack open a bottle of pi pa gao cough syrup as soon as you feel a slight itch in your throat, visit Woobbee. The popular bubble tea store at Tanjong Pagar Plaza has some unique pi pa gao-inspired beverages that will tickle your fancy especially if you’re big on fresh, minty flavours!

Upon first glance, the Herbal Mint Milk Tea ($5.30) looks like your standard milk tea until you take a sip, unveiling the oddly familiar taste of pi pa gao. The flavour of the syrup is pretty intense, but it stands well against the milkiness of the drink overall.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the taste of this traditional Chinese cough syrup, it carries a strong herbal and minty flavour. Peculiarly enough, this drink became a hit amongst locals who like the syrup more for its flavour rather than for its medicinal properties.

The concoction might not be able to heal a bad cough but it is definitely worth a try if you’re feeling adventurous. Else, other drinks we recommend are the Honey Mint Milk Tea ($5) and the refreshing Grape Yakult Earl Grey Tea ($4.30).

FYI, the Singapore Food Agency had declared pi pa gao-flavoured food products unlikely to have safety issues, so you can be at ease if you’d like to try the drink. Other viral pi pa gao-flavoured products include The Better Scoop’s Pi Pa Gao Latte and Tom’s Palette’s Pi Pa Gao ice cream.
