Awfully Chocolate launches chocolate raclette wheel at Wisma

When I think of Awfully Chocolate, the first image that comes to mind is the rich, luscious all-chocolate cake that had given the cafe chain its fame. But after I visited The Awfully Chocolate Experience Cafe, I can only think about their newly-launched chocolate raclette wheel. This interactive apparatus, exclusive to the outlet at Wisma Atria, is said to be the first in Singapore.

If you were wondering how the chocolate raclette wheel works, it’s simple: it functions just like a raclette cheese wheel, where melted cheese—in this case, chocolate—is gently scraped off.

A whole chocolate block weighs 5kg and is arduously made with a secret mix of ingredients: dark chocolate, shea butter and more.

For those who’d like to give the chocolate raclette wheel a try, do note there’s a separate dine-in menu to choose from. Out of the five items available, we tried three of them!

The Pisang Pisang ($15++) was a collective favourite; my colleague and I enjoyed the winning combination of chocolate and bananas. This stunning dessert features a rich banana cake with a layer of spiced apple filling, topped with crispy goreng pisang nuggets and toasted walnuts.

It’s then finished with a hot mess of melted chocolate from the raclette wheel, which you can help yourself to at the counter.

We were also fond of the Roti Jala ($15++), where chocolate lace pancakes were served with creamy coconut nai gai, AKA a mix of cream cheese and whipped cream.

It’s then topped with some baked pistachios and chocolate soil as the finishing touches.

For something more complex, we recommend the Ricotta Crepe ($15++), which comes with a vanilla crepe, creamy ricotta, confit pear, sliced oranges, and a sprinkle of dried cranberries.

Another unique item we tried was the Chocolate Muah Chee (15++), available for both dine-in and takeaway. This melt-in-your-mouth dessert reminded me of chocolate warabimochi, done muah chee-style! It’s served with a side of chocolate sauce and peanut “soil” that’s essentially made using sugar, chocolate, and peanut powder.
