Our team loves fish soup—so much so that we went down to 10 different stalls across the island to look for the best fish soup in Singapore. We didn’t include Lu Jia Fish Soup in the list but they’re still worth a mention: this Yishun stall has a snaking long queue as soon as business kicks in!

For both fried and sliced fish goodness, go for the Mixed Fish Soup ($6.50/$9). Each bowl comes with a hearty portion of sliced batang, fried fish chunks, fresh tomatoes, and cabbage. And of course, you can request either a clear or milky soup base—whatever tickles your fancy.

For the best fish soup experience, we highly recommend getting a side of their Egg Floss ($1.30). We love having our crispy egg floss all submerged in the soup so that each piece soaks up the robust flavour of the broth.

If you love punchy flavours, get both their chilli sauces to dip your fish in: one’s your regular soya sauce with chilli padi mix, and the other is a spicy and mildly tangy sauce that’s said to taste similar to tau cheong. In case you didn’t know, the latter is a fermented soybean paste typically used for cooking steamed fish.

Besides the incredibly delicious soup that’s said to be robust, milky, and mildly sweet, patrons visit the stall time after time for the huge chunks of fried fish. Enjoy the best of both worlds by getting the Fried Fish Soup ($5.50/$8)! Many love this dish as the fish is firm and meaty, while the deep-fried batter isn’t too thick or doughy.

Lu Jia Fish Soup is a 13-minute bus ride from Yishun MRT Station. The queue forms as soon as shutters open, so make your way down ASAP.
