Those who believe that East side is best side just received a boost with the opening of Bites & Brews in Joo Chiat. A popular franchise from Shanghai, this cafe offers unique Western-Chinese fusion food such as Jian Bing Breakfast Burrito and even Mapo Tofu Lagsana.

Interestingly, Bites & Brews features an interior inspired by Peranakan design, showcasing intricate windows and cupboards reminiscent of traditional Peranakan homes throughout the eatery. While this may seem like a strange choice for a fusion food cafe, we can look past it because the interiors are so interesting.

The Mapo Tofu Lagsana ($21) is an interesting fusion dish: meat and tofu ragu are layered on Lagsana sheets and then combined with house-made tomato sauce and parmesan cheese. This dish is a must-try!

Another item you should check out is the Lamb Shawarma Benedict ($28). Consisting of roasted lamb, spinach, hollandaise sauce, and two poached eggs, this dish is both highly flavourful and comforting. Don’t worry if you’re not a fan of lamb, as this dish is said to be devoid of the typical gamey taste.

If you’re looking to quench your thirst, try their signature Raspberry Mango Milkshake ($15)! Otherwise, their ice-cold tea creations, such as the Banana Orange Jasmine Tea or the Apricot Honey Rose Tea for $8 each, are worth a shot as well
Bites & Brews is a good place to check out if you’re looking for a new brunch spot.
