Sweedy Patisserie is serving the viral crookie in Hougang

Singaporeans are quick to catch on to new ways of eating a croissant. Just take a look at Mr Holmes Bakehouse‘s cruffins, and Croffle & Coffee‘s croffles. Now, there’s another croissant trend: crookie AKA cookie croissant. Sweedy Patisserie, a cafe known for their fatcarons and durian cake, is serving the viral crookies that have been making waves in Paris and on TikTok these days.

One of the owners told me that she was doing research and development for bucket cookies when she came across the crookie trend on her TikTok. Since the cafe already makes their own croissants, she decided to combine both recipes and film a TikTok just for fun. Little did she know this TikTok would come to be so popular, garnering more than 90K views. Given her new social media fame, she decided to sell these croissants in her bakery.

The Crookie ($7.80+ a piece) is a hybrid of a croissant and a chocolate chip cookie. The owner told me that the croissant was fully baked before the cookie dough was added. The pastry was then sent back to the oven to be combined. When all’s done, you get an extra toasty croissant with chunky and melted dark chocolate within.

The pastry will arrive freshly toasted when you dine in, so the chocolate chips will be extra gooey. But for folks who prefer to enjoy these at home, the owner recommended air-frying them at 165°C for three to five minutes before eating them.

The cafe is also famous for their fatcarons, which are macarons filled with a thick buttercream. The mainstay flavour is the Mao Shan Wang Fatcaron ($6.50+), but do look out for their new monthly flavours as well. This month’s new flavour is the Pistachio which is also priced at $6.50+. The macaron contains roasted pistachio, pistachio paste, and white chocolate balls.

Other flavours of the month include Earl Grey, Matcha White Chocolate, and Hojicha, which are priced at $5+. The Earl Grey one had real tea leaves in the buttercream!
