Good news for all you cafe-goers! A new sidewalk cafe, Small Tables, has recently opened in Pacific Plaza at Orchard Road. Serving up signature Ipoh dishes, white coffee, and other incredible Asian flavours, this is a spot you should definitely check out!
Small Tables Cafe At Orchard Road
Opened on Sept 3, the cafe is decked with long-booth couches and seats overlooking the streets of Orchard. Taking on a modern approach to Ipoh’s lifestyle of gathering over meals, the cafe features a minimalist interior with dark tones and antique mirrors. Giving off retro and old-school vibes, the cafe is also decorated with grill grates and condensed milk, transporting you back to the good old days.
Designed by Executive Chef Sandra Sim, the menu features over 26 dishes, ranging from hearty mains to small bites, with a drinks menu offering coffee, tea, and wine.
Scrumptious Ipoh Dishes To Enjoy!
Enjoy dishes like the classic Ipoh Curry Mee ($20) that’s elevated with gourmet ingredients, bringing you an authentic yet incredible experience. Served with soup or dry, the bowl is served with an abundance of amazing ingredients like poached chicken, caramelised char siu, crispy siu yoke, braised pig ears, pig skin, poached prawns, bean sprouts, and mint leaves.
Adding fresh prawn stock to the rich and spicy curry base, it gives it an incredible depth of flavour that’ll make you crave for more with each sip! Additionally, the hor fun used is also made fresh daily in Ipoh with natural spring water which gives it an irresistible silkiness.
Satisfy your Ipoh cravings with the Ipoh Chee Cheong Fun ($12)! Indulge in silky rice noodles doused in Ipoh curry, with a side of special chilli sauce, fried beancurd skin and green chilli. The rice noodles soak up the rich and flavourful sauce, bursting in flavour with each bite.
If you’re looking for small bites, the Small Tables Sliders ($16) are definitely a good option. Sink your teeth into fluffy scrambled eggs and fragrant house-made luncheon meat, sandwiched between two fluffy and buttery brioche buns. Served in a trio, you can also opt for other combinations such as braised spicy beef tongue with avocado or pork belly with mui choy.
For sharing, be sure to go for the Whole Fish Otah ($28)! This tasty dish features a whole deboned yellow croaker stuffed with housemade Otah that’s baked to perfection in a banana leaf.
Another great option is the White Chopped Kampong Chicken with Sand Ginger($20 for half, $36 for whole). Served chilled, the white poached kampong chicken includes white ginger scallion oil and is topped with sand ginger. On top of that, the side of spicy chilli sauce infused with curry flavours elevates the chicken to another level!
Other Dishes Also Available
Pork Belly Satay ($16)
Curry Pig Skin ($12)
Hakka Yong Tau Foo ($16)
Ipoh White Coffee ($7.50)
At Small Tables, the coffee beans are roasted in the traditional Ipoh method. Compared to the local coffee in Singapore that’s served with evaporated milk, the signature Ipoh White Coffee is made with the perfect ratio of condensed milk to coffee. This gives each sip the perfect balance of sweetness and smokiness. Furthermore, each cup of coffee is paired with a side of freshly grilled kaya taiyaki!
