Well, let’s just say Pasir Panjang may not be the first place you think about when it comes to “cafes”, but it is becoming a more exciting area.

Other than The Kins’ and Fuel Plus+, you can find relatively newer names there including Knots Café & Living, Canopy HortPark and Eat 3 Bowls 呷三碗車站.

You may also want to head to the mixed development BIJOU which now houses four food establishments within – Xchange Restaurant & Bar, Xchange Chirashi, KrysBerry Superfood, and Seriously Coffee. It is located right opposite Pasir Panjang Food Centre.

Choose to sit inside, or outdoors at the al fresco dining area which was quite breezy (and empty because not many people have found out about this place).

As I was there early morning, only Seriously Coffee was opened.

They currently serve up a lean menu of Traditional Buttered Toast Set ($6), Traditional Toast Set ($7); and lunch items including Fisherman’s Laksa ($13), Not So Ordinary Mee Siam ($10), Teriyaki Chicken ($9.50), Spicy Lemongrass Chicken ($9.50), Garlic Chilli Shells Pot ($10) and Freo Tomato Chilli Shells Pot ($12).

I noticed something peculiar about their cakes, which come in block forms rather than the conventional round ones cut into triangular slices.

The baker Sue explained that the block cakes started at the original outlet at Clifford Center. As the kitchen space was small, she baked rectangular cakes which can free up more space for storage and display.

The block cakes are also easier to slice; and each can be cut into about 5 pieces which make it faster to sell out – thus keeping the cakes fresher.

Available flavours included the Onde Onde, Chocolate Banana, Chocolate Salted Caramel, Little Miss Sunshine (earl grey with lemon curd), and Chocolate Indulgence which has pomegranate to give that burst of acidity and crunch.

The best-selling Onde Oden comprised of pandan sponge with gula melaka syrup, light coconut whipped cream and gula melaka bits.

While I generally find most Ondeh Ondeh cakes in Singapore on the rather sugary-tasting due to the gula melaka, Seriously Coffee’s version was not that over.

The texture was moist, made more indulgent with the amount of light whipped cream which also helped balance some of that sweetness.

They currently have 1-for-1 promos for their coffee, though did not indicate when that would end (but likely till end of the year).
