Best bagel places in Singapore

Historically spelled beigel, the ring-shaped bread we know as a bagel has come increasingly popular in recent times. The first mention of this dense, chewy bun dates back to Jewish communities in Poland back in 1610, though there is evidence that bagels may have been made in Germany before this. Unlike regular bread that simply gets popped into the oven after proofing, bagels get a brief boiling with anything from baking soda to honey before they’re baked, giving them their characteristic bite, texture, and appearance. If you’re wondering where to get your hands on some in Singapore, we’ve got you sorted with this list of the best bagel places in Singapore.

1. Two Men Bagel House

One of the first to put hand-rolled bagels on the scene in Singapore is Two Men Bagel House, known for their massive, filled bagelwiches. With three locations at Tanjong Pagar, Holland Village, and Novena, each with their own location-specific speciality ‘wiches, TMBH has definitely made its mark on local foodies’ hearts.

Their classic bagelwiches include the Lox ($17.10), which stars smoked salmon, scallion cream cheese, capers, and more. Fans also love the B.E.C. ($15), an all-day breakfast shindig of scrambled eggs, bacon, double cheddar, and spicy ketchup. You get to choose your bagel from options including Plain, Sesame, Cheddar, Garlic, and even Strawberry! Otherwise, you can take them home as-is, with prices starting from $3.20 for one.

We visited Keen’s Bagelry in Bugis some time ago to give their Japanese- and NYC-inspired bagelwiches a try. There are just five items on the menu at this three-month-old business, but you also have the option to customise your very own bagelwich.

Their bagels are made fresh each morning in flavours such as Plain, Sesame, Cheddar, and Blueberry, along with house-made schmears including Maple Butter. If you’re undecided, go for the Hashstack ($8.50), a bagel packed with hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, mozzarella, and truffle mayo.
